A San Francisco Story

A San Francisco Story is an eighty-one-page book that explores the impact of the technology boom on San Francisco. Through a combination of personal narratives and data analysis, the book offers a unique perspective on the city's transformation from a financially-driven economy to a tech-driven society. As a designer on the project, my responsibilities included creating an engaging and informative book layout, as well as designing a 24in x 36in poster and two postcards to promote the book.

  • Undertaking a project of such magnitude demanded an exhaustive research effort on diverse subjects. I spent countless hours scouring through articles that delved into the far-reaching impact of the tech industry on San Francisco. My research spanned a broad spectrum of topics ranging from political implications to the housing crisis, as well as firsthand accounts from local residents. To ensure an impartial perspective, I conducted interviews using Google Forms, soliciting input from both the tech and non-tech communities. In total, over sixty participants shared their views, which I then integrated as research material into A San Francisco Story. As I progressed, I created infographics to complement each chapter, visually capturing the essence of the narrative.

  • I approached this project with a deep sense of personal investment, as it touched upon a subject that has always been close to my heart as a San Francisco native. In order to create a comprehensive senior thesis on the impact of the tech industry on the city, I had to employ a variety of research tools and techniques to gather the most relevant information. Throughout the process, I also refined my skills in Adobe Illustrator, allowing me to create visually compelling and informative infographics that enhanced the overall project. Above all, this endeavor emphasized the importance of adhering to deadlines and project timelines, as failing to do so can quickly lead to feelings of overwhelm and burnout.
