Overview

Modern Health is a mental health platform that reached out to the author to develop a brand identity for their Latinx Employee Resource Group (ERG) Team, named Mi Gente. The goal was to create a logo that would embody a diverse range of cultures without showing bias towards anyone in particular.

Problem: How can Modern Health's Latinx Employee Resource Group (ERG) team, Mi Gente, create a brand identity that accurately represents the Latinx community while instilling pride and unity among its members, without showing preference towards any particular culture?

Business Goal: To create a logo that accurately represented the Latinx community and instilled pride and unity among the Mi Gente team.

Team: Product Manager, Recruiting Coordinator, Senior Technical Recruiter, and Graphic Designer

Modern Health, a prominent mental health platform, reached out to me to develop a brand identity for their Latinx Employee Resource Group (ERG) Team, named Mi Gente. The task at hand was to design a logo that would embody a diverse range of cultures without showing bias towards any one in particular.

To start, I worked with Mi Gente's Employee Resource Group (ERG) to conduct extensive research on Latinx culture. This was a crucial step because it allowed us to gain a deeper understanding of the community we were representing and ensure that the logo we created was respectful and authentic.

We conducted research by sending out a survey through social media to ask what immediately came to mind when someone heard "Latino/Latina". We used the answers as a guide to create a mood board and sketch a few symbols for the Latinx community. Through this process, we identified several key themes and symbols that were important to the community, such as family, unity, passion, and diversity.

Research

In the process of creating the logo, I created over 50 different logo iterations, each exploring different themes and design elements. I made sure to have a wide range of options to choose from and explored every possible direction before making any final decisions. The Mi Gente team was heavily involved in the process, providing feedback and refinement to ensure that the logo accurately represented the Latinx community and instilled pride and unity among the team. Through several rounds of revisions, tweaks, and adjustments, we landed on the final design, which was a bold, colorful representation of Latinx culture that incorporated key themes of diversity, inclusion, family, unity, and passion. The final logo, which incorporated the rose symbol, serves as a symbol of unity and pride for the Latinx ERG team and represents our company's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Iteration

The final logo was a bold, colorful design that incorporated elements of Latinx culture, the rose, while also representing diversity and inclusion. It was showcased to the Modern Health team via a company-wide zoom call and it was well received by the Mi Gente team and the broader Modern Health community. It now serves as a symbol of unity and pride for the Latinx ERG team and represents the company's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

In conclusion, creating the brand identity for Modern Health's Latinx ERG team was a challenging but rewarding experience. It required extensive research, collaboration, and creativity, but it ultimately resulted in a logo that accurately represented the Latinx community and instilled pride and unity among the Mi Gente team.
